- Kapitel 2 -

In the foure and twentieth day of the sixt moneth, in the second yeere of King Darius,

In the seuenth moneth, in the one and twentieth day of the moneth, came the worde of the Lord by the ministerie of the Prophet Haggai, saying,

Speake nowe to Zerubbabel the sonne of Shealtiel prince of Iudah, and to Iehoshua the sonne of Iehozadak the hie Priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

Who is left among you, that sawe this House in her first glory, and howe doe you see it nowe? is it not in your eyes, in comparison of it as nothing?

Yet nowe be of good courage, O Zerubbabel, sayth the Lord, and be of good comfort, O Iehoshua, sonne of Iehozadak the hie Priest: and be strong, all ye people of the land, sayth the Lord, and doe it: for I am with you, sayth the Lord of hostes,

According to the worde that I couenanted with you, when ye came out of Egypt: so my Spirite shall remaine among you, feare ye not.

For thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Yet a litle while, and I will shake the heauens and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land:

And I will moue all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come, and I will fill this House with glory, sayth the Lord of hostes.

The siluer is mine, and the golde is mine, sayth the Lord of hostes.

Blessings for a Defiled People

The glory of this last House shall be greater then the first, sayth the Lord of hostes: and in this place will I giue peace, sayth the Lord of hostes.

In the foure and twentieth day of the ninth moneth, in the second yeere of Darius, came the worde of the Lord vnto the Prophet Haggai, saying,

Thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Aske nowe the Priests concerning the Law, and say,

If one beare holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt doe touch the bread, or the potage, or the wine, or oyle, or any meate, shall it be holy? And the Priests answered and said, No.

Then sayde Haggai, If a polluted person touch any of these, shall it be vncleane? And the Priests answered, and sayd, It shalbe vncleane.

Then answered Haggai, and sayd, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the Lord: and so are all the workes of their hands, and that which they offer here, is vncleane.

And nowe, I pray you, consider in your mindes: from this day, and afore, euen afore a stone was layde vpon a stone in the Temple of the Lord:

Before these things were, when one came to an heape of twentie measures, there were but ten: when one came to the wine presse for to drawe out fiftie vessels out of the presse, there were but twentie.

I smote you with blasting, and with mildewe, and with haile, in all the labours of your hands: yet you turned not to me, saith the Lord.

Consider, I pray you, in your mindes, from this day, and afore from the foure and twentieth day of the ninth moneth, euen from the day that the foundation of the Lords Temple was laide: consider it in your mindes.

Zerubbabel the LORD’s Signet Ring

Is the seede yet in the barne? as yet the vine, and the figtree, and the pomegranate, and the oliue tree hath not brought forth: from this day will I blesse you.

And againe the worde of the Lord came vnto Haggai in the foure and twentieth day of the moneth, saying,

Speake to Zerubbabel the prince of Iudah, and say, I wil shake the heauens and the earth,

And I will ouerthrowe the throne of kingdomes, and I wil destroy the strength of the kingdomes of the heathen, and I wil ouerthrowe the charets, and those that ride in them, and the horse and the riders shall come downe, euery one by the sword of his brother. In that day, saith the Lord of hostes, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel my seruant, the sonne of Shealtiel, sayth the Lord, and wil make thee as a signet: for I haue chosen thee, sayth the Lord of hostes.

Die kommende Herrlichkeit von Gottes Haus

Am vierundzwanzigsten Tage des sechsten Monats, im zweiten Jahre des Königs Darius.

Im siebenten Monat, am einundzwanzigsten des Monats, erging das Wort des Herrn durch Aggäus, den Propheten, also:

Sprich zu Zorobabel, dem Sohne Salathiels, den Fürsten von Juda, und zu Jesus, dem Sohne Josedeks, dem Hohenpriester, und zu dem übrigen Volke, also:

Wer unter euch ist übrig, der dieses Haus in seiner früheren Herrlichkeit gesehen? Und wie sehet ihr es jetzt? Ist es nicht so wie nichts in euern Augen?

Doch nun, fasse Mut, Zorobabel! spricht der Herr; fasse Mut, Jesus, Sohn Josedeks, Hoherpriester! fasset Mut, alles Volk des Landes! spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, und vollbringet (denn ich bin mit euch, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen)

jenes Wort, das ich mit euch geschlossen, als ihr aus Ägypten auszoget, und mein Geist wird in eurer Mitte sein, fürchtet euch nicht!

Denn so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen: Nur noch eine kleine Weile, so erschüttere ich den Himmel und die Erde, das Meer und das Trockene.

Und ich erschüttere alle Völker und kommen wird der von allen Völkern Ersehnte und ich werde dieses Haus mit Herrlichkeit erfüllen, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.

Mein ist das Silber und mein ist das Gold, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.

Das Volk ist verunreinigt

Größer soll die Herrlichkeit dieses nachmaligen Hauses sein als des früheren, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, und an dieser Stätte werde ich Frieden spenden, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.

Am vierundzwanzigsten des neunten Monats, im zweiten Jahre des Königs Darius, erging das Wort des Herrn an den Propheten Aggäus also:

So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen: Befrage die Priester über das Gesetz und sprich:

Wenn jemand geheiligtes Fleisch im Zipfel seines Gewandes trägt und berührt mit dem Saume desselben Brot oder Gekochtes oder Wein oder Öl oder irgend eine Speise, wird solches dadurch geheiligt? Da antworteten die Priester und sprachen: Nein!

Aggäus aber sprach: Wenn ein von eine Leiche Verunreinigter alles dies berührt, wird es dadurch unrein? Die Priester antworteten und sprachen: Es wird unrein!

Der verheißene Segen

Da begann Aggäus und sprach: So ist es mit diesem Volke und so mit dieser Nation vor mir, spricht der Herr, und so mit allem Tun ihrer Hände: alles, was sie hier darbringen, ist unrein.

So nehmet denn zu Herzen, was sich zugetragen von diesem Tage an rückwärts, ehe Stein auf Stein am Tempel des Herrn gelegt ward.

Wenn ihr zu einem Garbenhaufen von zwanzig Scheffeln tratet, wurden es zehn; und tratet ihr zur Kelter, um fünfzig Maß zu keltern, so wurden es zwanzig.

Ich schlug euch mit Brand, Mehltau und Hagel, alle Arbeit eurer Hände, und doch war keiner unter euch, der sich zu mir bekehrt hätte, spricht der Herr.

Nehmet doch zu Herzen von diesem Tage an und weiter hinaus, vom vierundzwanzigsten Tage des neunten Monats, als von dem Tage ab, da der Grundstein zum Tempel des Herrn gelegt ward, nehmet es zu Herzen!

Serubbabel als Siegel erwählt

Ist etwa die Saat schon im Sprossen? Weinstock, Feigenbaum, Granate und Ölbaum blühen noch nicht! Aber von diesem Tage an will ich Segen spenden.

Und es erging das Wort des Herrn zum zweiten Mal an Aggäus, am vierundzwanzigsten des Monats, also:

Sprich zu Zorobabel, dem Fürsten von Juda, also: Ich werde den Himmel zugleich mit der Erde erschüttern.

Ich werde die Königsthrone umstürzen und die Macht des Völkerreiches zerbrechen, niederwerfen die Kriegswagen und deren Lenker; die Rosse werden zu Boden stürzen mit ihren Reitern, einer soll durch das Schwert des anderen getroffen werden.

An jenem Tage, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, werde ich dich nehmen, Zorobabel, Sohn Salathiels, mein Diener! spricht der Herr, und ich werde dich einem Siegelringe gleichmachen, denn ich habe dich auserwählt, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.
