- Kapitel 2 -

And now, O ye Priests, this commandement is for you.

If yee will not heare it, nor consider it in your heart, to giue glory vnto my Name, sayth the Lord of hostes, I will euen sende a curse vpon you, and will curse your blessings: yea, I haue cursed them alreadie, because yee doe not consider it in your heart.

Behold, I wil corrupt your seede, and cast dongue vpon your faces, euen the dongue of your solemne feastes, and you shall be like vnto it.

And yee shall know, that I haue sent this commandement vnto you, that my couenant, which I made with Leui, might stand, sayeth the Lord of hostes.

My couenant was with him of life and peace, and I gaue him feare, and he feared mee, and was afraid before my Name.

The lawe of trueth was in his mouth, and there was no iniquitie founde in his lippes: hee walked with me in peace and equitie, and did turne many away from iniquitie.

For the Priestes lippes shoulde preserue knowledge, and they shoulde seeke the Lawe at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hostes.

But yee are gone out of the way: yee haue caused many to fall by the Lawe: yee haue broken the couenant of Leui, sayeth the Lord of hostes.

Therefore haue I also made you to be despised, and vile before all the people, because yee kept not my wayes, but haue beene partiall in the Lawe.

Judah’s Unfaithfulness

Haue we not all one father? hath not one God made vs? why doe we transgresse euery one against his brother, and breake the couenant of our fathers?

Iudah hath transgressed, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Ierusalem: for Iudah hath defiled the holinesse of the Lord, which hee loued, and hath maried the daughter of a strange God.

The Lord will cut off the man that doeth this: both the master and the seruaunt out of the Tabernacle of Iaacob, and him that offereth an offering vnto the Lord of hostes.

And this haue ye done againe, and couered the altar of the Lord with teares, with weeping and with mourning: because the offering is no more regarded, neither receiued acceptably at your handes.

Yet yee say, Wherein? Because the Lord hath beene witnesse betweene thee and the wife of thy youth, against whome thou hast transgressed: yet is shee thy companion, and the wife of thy couenant.

And did not hee make one? yet had hee abundance of spirit: and wherefore one? because he sought a godly seede: therefore keepe your selues in your spirit, and let none trespasse against the wife of his youth.

If thou hatest her, put her away, sayeth the Lord God of Israel, yet he couereth the iniurie vnder his garment, saieth the Lord of hosts: therefore keepe your selues in your spirite, and transgresse not.

Yee haue wearied the Lord with your woordes: yet yee say, Wherein haue we wearied him? When ye say, Euery one that doeth euill, is good in the sight of the Lord, and he deliteth in them. Or where is the God of iudgement?

Korrupte Priester

An euch ergeht demnach dies Gebot, ihr Priester!

Wenn ihr nicht hören und es nicht zu Herzen nehmen wollt, meinem Namen die Ehre zu geben, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, so will ich unter euch Mangel senden und euren Segnungen fluchen; ja, fluchen will ich ihnen, denn ihr habt es nicht zu Herzen genommen.

Sehet, ich werfe euch das Schulterstück weg und schleudere euch den Unrat eurer Feste in euer Angesicht und er wird euch mit sich fortschleppen.

Dann werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich dies Gebot an euch ergehen ließ, auf dass mein Bund mit Levi bestehe, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.

Mein Bund mit ihm war ein Bund des Lebens und des Friedens, ich gab ihm Furcht und er fürchtete mich und er zitterte vor meinem Namen.

Das Gesetz der Wahrheit war in seinem Munde und Unrecht war auf seinen Lippen nicht erfunden, in Friede und in Gerechtigkeit wandelte er mit mir und viele brachte er vom Bösen ab.

Denn die Lippen des Priesters sollen die Erkenntnis bewahren und das Gesetz soll man von seinem Munde suchen, denn ein Bote des Herrn der Heerscharen ist er.

Ihr aber seid von dem rechten Wege abgewichen und seid sehr vielen Anlass zum Falle und zur Verletzung des Gesetzes gewesen, ihr habt den Bund mit Levi zunichte gemacht, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen.

Darum habe auch ich euch vor allen Völkern verächtlich und niedrig gemacht, so wie ihr meine Wege nicht gewahrt und Menschenrücksichten im Gesetze gehuldigt habt.

Der Verrat der Untreue

Haben wir denn nicht alle einen Vater? Hat uns nicht ein Gott erschaffen? Warum verachtet also unter uns einer den andern und entweiht den Bund unserer Väter?

Juda hat Treubruch begangen, Greuel ist in Israel und in Jerusalem verübt; denn Juda hat das Heiligtum des Herrn, das er liebt, entweiht und Töchter fremder Götter gefreit.

Aber der Herr wird jeden, der solches tut, Lehrer wie Schüler, aus den Hütte Jakobs vertilgen und den, welcher dem Herrn der Heerscharen Opfergabe darbringt.

Auch dies noch habt ihr getan: Ihr bedecktet den Altar des Herrn mit Tränen, Weinen und Wehklagen, so dass ich nicht mehr auf das Opfer blicken noch etwas zur Versöhnung annehmen mag von eurer Hand.

Ihr sprechet noch: Warum das? Darum, weil der Herr Zeuge ist zwischen dir und dem Weibe deiner Jugend, das du verschmäht hast, während sie doch deine Gefährtin und deine vermählte Gattin ist.

Hat nicht einer sie erschaffen und ist nicht auch sie ein Ausfluss seines Geistes? Und was will der eine anders als Nachkommenschaft Gottes? Darum wahret euren Geist und verschmähe das Weib deiner Jugend nicht!

Wenn du ihr abgeneigt bist, so entlasse sie, spricht der Herr, der Gott Israels. Aber die Unbill wird sein Gewand bedecken, spricht der Herr der Heerscharen. Wahret euren Geist und verschmähet nicht!

Ihr kränkt den Herrn durch eure Reden und ihr sprecht: Worin haben wir ihn gekränkt? Dadurch dass ihr sprecht: Jeder, der Böses tut, ist gut vor dem Herrn, und solche gefallen Gottes Auge wohl; oder doch: Wo ist denn der Gott des Gerichtes?
